Some time ago I posted a blog about online predators and was reminded of it once again when I was cruising the Columbia Tribune website. In addition to checking out CNN daily I like to tune in to some local news as well. Today I found an article about a man who was convicted in solicitation of a minor online. This man was from Warrensburg and traveled to Columbia to meet a supposed 14 year old girl he met in a Yahoo chat roomfor sex. Luckily this innocent girl was actually a well trained police officer conducting an online sting for predators like this man. I found this interesting since it wasn't long ago I was watching this happen on Dateline. This just proves that these incidences do not just happen in big cities they can happen here too. It's disturbing to know that one day I will let a child out into the world with these types of people prowling the streets. I guess one thing that can be learned from this story is to not to allow her to prowel the internet unsupervised.Another article I ran across that I had heard about is this semi traveling on I-70 yesterday that caught fire. According to news release from the Columbia Tribune a mattress flew off a truck and wedged itself between the rear wheels of the semi and then caught fire. Apparently no one was hurt but considerable damage was done to the semi. It would have been a terrible site to be driving down I-70 and see a semi on fire. Did anyone see this? Wow!

You do a pretty good job of keeping current with the news. I should probably try to do that more often.
I don't stay as current with the news as I would like. That is crazy what kind of creeps are really out there! At least he got caught though.
I saw the Dateline special about child predators too (I told you that in an earlier comment). My sister just alerted me to a website that I thought I would share with you, especially having a young daughter. I think I am going to make my next post on my blog about this, so I can share it with the class. It is www.familywatchdog.us You type in your address and it will tell you all the sexual predators who are registered and living in your neighborhood. For instance, I have 11 registered sex offenders living within a mile of me. That is terrifying. It also gives you a photo with some of them. It first gives you a map, but if you click on "List" it will list them by proximity to your house, and give you their name, address, and their crime. I think it is useful for any college female to know if there are dangerous people living near them, and you should definitely check it out since you have a young child...the majority of those who live near me have offenses involving children.
